Bianca Kennedy & The Swan Collective

Bianca Kennedy & The Swan Collective (Felix Kraus) had this strange but beautiful exhibition at the Gallery Esther Donatz. I abdicate my own interpretation here, because the one written due to the exhibition is truly accurate and asserts everything you need to know in a nice way [Thanx to Bianca & Felix for the invitation to this fine event.]

»Hybrids – Not only are they of importance for animal and plant breeding; they have also contributed to the development of the human being.Under the premise of an advancing evolution and the potential of technical and digital innovations, Bianca Kennedy & The Swan Collective have radically taken the idea of genetic cross-over to the next level and invented a microcosm where diverse hybrids of human, plant and animal co-exist. The film “Hybrid” (2014) reflects the story of a highly intelligent composite creature in the year 3.000 which has gained new strengths, however, struggles with inner and outer conflicts. What, for instance, would be the consequences if oxygen ran short because the photosynthesis could not be performed anymore?«

»Bianca Kennedy & The Swan Collective have created a science fiction scenario which seems to be strange and frighteningly familiar at the same time. The fun fair setting that the artists have created for Esther Donatz Gallery appears similarly surreal and dense in atmosphere. Besides wooden inlay works and neon objects, a bizarre market stall offers DNA-extending substances which are not sold according to capitalist principles but raffled off. Get lucky and boost your body with the power of gills or roots!«
